I finished coloring the poem that my grandma had taped in her journal, and put it on the fridge in hopes to think often and fondly of my wonderful grandma.
Sunday, I went to her grave with my family, and prettied her spot with flowers. Watching Liza running around and sitting on headstones and splashing in puddles at the cemetery made me feel sad that Liza won't get to have her great grandma in her life the way I did and that I won't get to tell my grandma about all the funny little things Liza does as she grows old, but it is getting less and less painful the more I think about the memories I had with her that I can share with Liza. I hope that she can one day be a wonderful lady like her great grandma.

My Grandma died in February and it was really difficult for me. I think it was difficult for everyone that knew her. She was a very caring person. I am still not sure I have closure with her passing. As I drive my daughter to and from daycare, I have to drive by the cemetery she was buried in and sometimes I cry from the reminder that she's gone. There are so many things I want to talk to her about. She was always there for me, to listen to care for me. Today my Mom sent this poem to me and my siblings in an email and explained that my Aunt had found the poem taped in her mother's journal. It is like a letter straight from her telling me to not be sad and that she still loves me. My grandma was always clipping out poems or articles or photographs from magazines and mailing them to her grandchildren and when I read this poem it so reminded me of my grandma. I could picture her reading this poem and knowing it would be a comfort in the future to her children and grandchildren; like one last personal message of love.
I thought I wanted to write the poem down and illustrate it (I am still working on it) and put it on her grave Monday, but I think I will keep it and hang it somewhere in my house to remember her; that if I see a bird she loved, (quails!) to not let the thought of her be sad for she is loving me just as she always has.

The bear cake that I made for Eliza's Birthday party was time consuming to say the least! You'll need to carve out at least 4 hours to undergo this challenge. Thankfully my Sister-in-law helped or it would have taken twice as long. I found the idea from the Martha Stewart Living Magazine and I usually shudder at the perfect looking, yet deceivingly "easy" instructions of a Martha Stewart project... but I couldn't resist the cuteness of the end result (which I have to say did turn out quite nice). The recipe actually made it really easy with print out templates that you can lay on the cake to cut the different shapes. If any of you try this, the hardest part was getting the cake out of the pan, I didn't use the parchment paper like it says to, but I suggest you do because the middle part of our cake stuck to the pan (probably would have been fine if I would have cooked it a little longer), so we ended up having to sort of piece it together. Also the frosting was a bit of a pain because the melted chocolate would harden inside the tip of the pastry thing-a-ma-bob. I am not sure why it did this, but it was a real pain because I had to clean it out after every 10 minutes. But if you are willing to take on a tedious project, these cakes are so adorable and worth it. Eliza really could care less about it and she actually did even end up having one bit of it, which was really weird, but anyway, everyone else thought it was great and since we were at the zoo, it made it even more fun to have an animal cake.
Above are the other animals you can make. Below is the cake Lauren and I made!

It has been way too long since I blogged last. There have been so many things I wanted to write about so I wouldn't forget someday, but I have waited too long and someday came too soon. Eliza has been talking a lot more lately and is starting to put words together. She can say all her colors and names so many animals and the sounds they make. It is so cute to hear her say "ribit" for a frog. She is still a picky eater, but we are working on it. She loves hot dogs and all kinds of crap, but I did get her to eat watermelon and strawberries recently, which I never could get her to eat fruit besides apples (which she LOVES) and mandarin oranges. Who doesn't love strawberries and watermelon. She does not sleep well at night if she is not in her own crib. Jeff and I decided to go to SLC a couple weeks back and Liza did not sleep and we all got frustrated and we decided to pack up around 1am and go home. It was horrible. Eliza didn't even sleep on the way home she just kept pointing at the semi trucks and say "busssss." Then this week Jeff's parent's left for St. George and they said we could stay at their house while they are away. We decided that would be best since we are taking care of Lilly and Jeff is staining their house. But Eliza wouldn't have anything to do with that. She did fall asleep for awhile, but she woke up and didn't know where she was and was inconsolable for such a long time we again just decided we had learned our lesson to just be homebodies til Liza is more comfortable staying other places.
What else can I say about what Liza's been doing lately? I can't think of anything new, even though there are probably tons of things. We are having her birthday party at Hoogle Zoo on Saturday and I can hardly wait! We are going to have pizza at the Zoo's bowery and then I am making a bear cake that I found at on Martha Stewart website. Then we are going to walk through the zoo. I know Eliza's going to love it.

WHEEEEE
We went on a walk around the block yesterday since it was beautiful weather outside. We are loving this early spring. Liza gets so distracted by every little thing she sees, that our walks usually take a very long time, but I love it. Seeing things through a youngster's new and wondering eyes is refreshing! Often Jeff and I would be a ways ahead of her and so we would say, "come on Eliza, run!" and she would run with her short legs and get the most adorable smile on her face and scream, "wheeeeeee!" I love that and hope I can always remember her simply pleasures.
Spring Break
I am very grateful for the break I was able to have. It has rejuvenated me to go back to work and helped me prioritize my life. Sometimes when you get so busy, it is hard to realize what is important, but the next hurdle you have to get over. I felt a lot like I was just trying to survive and keep my head above water, but now feel like mundane little things are not so worrisome.
I was able to: buy some new clothes for Eliza and me, go on long walks with lots of dogs, go hot tubbing, have good conversations with Jeff, fly a kite, eat at Herm's Inn (I recommend the veggie omelet), cook, watch Hugo, and read Dancing at the Rascal Fair by Ivan Doig (loving it)!
Eliza said some new words that I can now not remember for the life of me. She is still making up her own little language and insists that everything is a "bidah," which is her word for things she can't say. It is actually really starting to drive Jeff and I nuts since she says it so much! But we love her!!!! One night as I was rocking her, Eliza would sit up wrap her arms around me and bury her head in my chest for a second, then lay back down. She did this several times and it melted my heart! She is so sweet. Eliza loves to play the piano and she now starts nodding after she says something like I do when she is talking to me and I have no clue what she is saying so I just nod and say, "wow!"
I can't wait for my next vacation!
